What’s Satan Trying to Do?

Satan Has a Plan

When receiving advice or instruction, how are we able to tell if it is trustworthy?  Satan will give us advice and sometimes it seems okay.  What is he trying to do?  Let’s look at the following scriptures to understand that God, and His children, have a common enemy named Satan.  He has a plan to destroy us, confuse us, and take away all the good things God has for us.  Remember that God has given us His armor to help us stand firm against Satan and his plans.

Matthew 4:1-11
Satan is a master at making sin seem like good advice, even twisting God’s words to do it.  Let’s take a closer look at the temptations and at first, you will notice, they seem like good advice.  Eat when you are hungry. Experience God’s protection.  Acquire power.  Satan even quoted the Bible to demonstrate that his advice was good.  Watch Out!!!  He is just as deceptive today, taking God’s Word out of context to achieve his goals.  Satan also makes false promises to try and deceive.  It is extremely important to know the scriptures, God’s Word, so we can fight satan’s temptations as Jesus did.

2 Corinthians 11:14-15
This passage further shows Satan’s deception.  Our enemy disguises himself as an angel of light, when in reality his advice contradicts God’s plans.  1 Peter 5:8-9 tells us that our enemy seeks to devour us.  These passages truly explain that our enemy does nothing but deceive and devour.

Ephesians 6:10-18
These verses describe our relationship with Satan, our enemy, in battle terms.  The purpose of any battle is to defeat the enemy, so we know Satan’s intent and must be suited with armor to stand firm.  To wear God’s armor means to:

Know His truth

Seek discernment

Pursue righteousness

Seek peace

Build up our faith in God

Hold firm to Salvation through Christ Jesus

Know God’s Word

Stay alert through PRAYER

In today’s culture, Satan is often seen as a cool superhero or else dismissed entirely.  We may not even realize that Satan is real – and he is really powerful.  We are offered assurance because God has defeated Satan and He will help us stand strong against his schemes and attacks.
