Everyone goes through storms in life. It’s very tempting when going through one to want Jesus to come and defeat our adversary, remove the difficulty, and deliver us from oppression! Some only want Jesus to deliver them from consequences, but not from their own sinfulness (Luke 9:23-26). Jesus has to be King of your heart before He can be King of your life. As the disciples headed out, a big storm came. The first time they were caught in a storm they freaked out (Matthew 8:23-27). Jesus was there with them in the boat that time, but not this time. Did Jesus know a storm was coming? Of course He did, but then why would He allow them to sail into the middle of a storm and struggle so long? Why does He sometimes allow the same to happen to us? There are two answers: Either you’ve disobeyed Him and find your flesh struggling against His will (Hebrews 12:6-8) or you’re in the storm because you obeyed Him and did exactly what He asked of you! The second happens, not because you’re being corrected, but because you’re being strengthened (Romans 5:3-5)! You may feel as if Jesus has abandoned you in the middle of the raging sea, but you are not alone (Joshua 1:9). Sometimes they occur to correct you, sometimes to strengthen you, but never to destroy you. Jesus is always with you in every storm! When they welcomed Jesus into the boat, not only did the storm vanish, but they immediately arrived on shore. In storms, we have 2 choices: Are you going to fight the storm and try to bring your boat to shore without Jesus’s help, or are you going to be like the disciples and willingly receive Jesus into your boat?
Lesson4Life: Invite Jesus to power your boat or get ready to row for a long time!
