More often than not, we only believe what we can see. The disciples could not see the “Father” and did not understand that He and Jesus were One. They didn’t understand when Jesus told them that He was going away, but they knew the way to where He was going. It all sounded like gibberish. He told them, “If you have seen Me then you have seen the Father” (John 14:7). It wasn’t making any sense to them. Somewhat distraught and disillusioned, Phillip said, “Lord show us the Father and it is sufficient.” Jesus explained to them again that if they had seen Him then they had seen the Father (John 14:10-11, John 10:30). If for no other reason, He urged them to believe because of the miracles that they had seen Him do. The same should be true for us. There is no denying Jesus when you see the miracles He does in the lives of people who trust Him – miracles which were done by God the Father, who is in the Son, Jesus! Jesus performed countless miracles and He’s still working miracles today. He works miracles in and through us by the power of His Name. In fact, He even said that whatever we ask in His name He would do (John 14:13).
Whatever we ask in the Name of Jesus will be done in order to glorify the Father. This does not mean that Jesus is our personal genie. Our prayers must be according to Jesus’ nature and will. When we ask according to His will and in His name it glorifies Him.
Lesson4Life: The goal of every prayer in His name should be to bring glory to His name!
