John 14:15-21 “I Love You More Than Tacos”

What does it really mean to love? How can people determine what we actually love when we express love for so many different things? We express our love for tacos and a few minutes later we express our love for our Jesus. These are two different kinds of love. Obviously, the kind of love that you have for a taco is not the same love that you have for Jesus (or at least we hope not!). So what sets apart our love for Jesus and how is it possible to know when someone really loves Him?

Jesus said to His disciples, “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15 NKJV). However, He understood that love is a complex and dynamic word so He used the greek word “agapao” referring to a supernatural love that’s only available through Him. We can say that we LOVE Jesus, but if we don’t keep His commandments it’s only taco love. Thankfully, God gave us the Holy Spirit who, not only reveals the Father and the Son, but also reveals His love for us and equips us to love Him in return. In John 14:21 Jesus indicates that when we grow in obedience, we’re growing in love and He will love and manifest Himself even more to those who love Him.

Lesson4Life: love Jesus more today than you did yesterday and you’ll grow closer to Him!
